Natural pain relief in labour

Combs have been used in birthing for centuries, and midwives were taught about using them for pain relief in labour.

They work for a couple of reasons. The teeth of the comb applies acupressure to points in the hand that create a distraction and a new focal point for the brain to concentrate on. It also plays a part in the gate control pain theory; nerve endings in your hand send messages to the brain and distract it from the sensations of contractions.

Holy sh*t this is good

A wooden comb. A WOODEN COMB. Total dark horse of labour coping tools. I squeezed this puppy all day long. A couple of times I dropped it between contractions and had to gasp for my husband to pick it up when the next surge came. Amazing. No gas or epi needed when you have a wooden comb. I liked that the spineless edge was rounded to fit in my palm, and that it was strong enough to withstand my squeezing. 5 stars for my bestie.
